Granted, some find their start position difficult, but it can probably be mitigated by difficulty levelġ) Their only campaign mechanic that can punish the player as opposed to giving more stuff is loyalty of non-legendary lords, but I've never seen it become an issue while playing as Malekith. I'm surprised noone has mentioned Dark Elves yet. I don't think there's a better faction to learn the game with. Plus, you quickly learn how good sacking and raiding can be early on. The only negative is the fightiness, but even then it really just encourages a new player to not be shy and keep things rolling. Just have a home base and go raid and pillage to your heart's content. Its just a fun campaign that feels a lot less do-or-die and stressful than the other ones. The playstyle encourages you to be reckless and charge in, thus learning game mechanics and getting your ass beat, while simultaneously not doing bad in the campaign regardless of how many enemies you have. You get fun big monsters to work towards and make sticking to the campaign worth it (arachnaroks are so fuckin cool, especially for newbies), cav, and some unique artillery that can slaughter infantry by just pointing and clicking with minimal worry about friendly fire. You start off facing your own faction's units and can get familiar with them, plus some basic empire units (before the magic and intense artillery barrages come from further north), and a good mix of dwarf enemies that are pretty immobile and give you plenty of leverage to maneuver. That's debatable, I think the orcs are the best starter faction. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
